How much moss!!
Tried electric scarifier before and they just don’t cut it.This bad boy does the job without fault. The amount of moss and thatch this pulls is impressive. One of our lawns was so mossy that it was basically becoming just moss. This scarifier remedied that and will now allow the grass more space, air and light to grow better.Assembly was straightforward and manoeuvring is easy. Although it’s not technically self propelled, the fact it’s gripping the thatch means it does pull itself along, so it’s minimal effort for the operator.Petrol engine is powerful, if a bit noisy, but no annoying power cables. If you have any lawns bigger than a postage stamp, then buy a petrol scarifier as it works far better.Currently own a few Hyundai garden machines including petrol lawnmower and petrol chainsaw, and they do the job well for a good price. Spares are also readily available.Disregard the detachable collector though as they are never big enough. Instead we use it without and then use a petrol blower to blow the moss etc into piles and into tonne bags.

Quality machine that does an excellent job.
I have three lawns extending to around 1,000 square metres and they were all in a poor state after last year’s hot, dry summer, with bare patches and a build-up of moss. In previous years, I’d hired in a scarifier when necessary, but decided that it was time I bought one. I looked long and hard at the Hyundai 212cc Petrol Scarifier/Aerator, comparing it with the Hyundai 1800w Electric Lawn Scarifier/Aerator/Lawn Rake. The price difference was significant (£368 v £159 on Amazon), so decided to order the cheaper electric model since I also own a portable Honda generator and planned to run it using this. However, I was then contacted and told that there would be a delay in the supply of the electric model and was asked if I wanted cancel the order. After agonising about it, I decided to do what I should have done in the first place, cancelling the electric machine and ordering the petrol model, and I’m so thankful that I was given the opportunity to change my mind!Assembling the machine is fairly straightforward, although do make sure that you orientate the lower handle so that the pigtail that takes the starter cord is on the right side as you stand behind the machine – I initially attached the lower handle wrongly and had to refit it. I decided to remove the steel scarifying blades and substitute the spring rake as I wanted to remove thatch and moss with only light scratching of the soil surface prior to reseeding. I had to abandon the grass catcher as it filled up too quickly and subsequently had to use a lawn rake to gather up the moss into piles (see picture). I finished off by collecting up loose material in the grass collector of my rotary mower. The machine started easily every time and functioned perfectly, once I had mastered the height-adjustment mechanism. However, I did identify two issues. Firstly, the grass catcher is quite tricky to re-locate in its housing. There is probably a knack to this but, so far, I haven’t managed to master the technique. If I were advising Hyundai, I would tell their engineers to redesign the mechanism. The other issue concerns the hand wheels that secure the handles. No matter how tightly I did them up, there was always the tendency for them to work loose due to the vibration of the machine. On two occasions I found missing wheels amongst piles of moss, and they could easily have been thrown away. The fixings come supplied with a plain washer, so I decided to add a starlock washer and a drop of threadlocker fluid for good measure (see picture). I have plenty of storage space so don’t need to collapse the handle, but those who do would have to omit the threadlocker fluid. With luck, the starlock washers should work on their own. Other than these issues, I’m delighted with my purchase and would encourage those tossing up between an electric or a petrol machine (particularly those with large lawns) to go for the petrol version, freeing the operator from an electric cable.

Really effective bit of kit
Good easy to operate machine, pulls moss & thatch out with ease. Only one annoying thing is that both aerator & scarify bar develop a rattle after 20 minutes of use, this is the only thing that lets it down as everything is a good build quality

Very Pleased with the Scarifier
I have three relatively large lawns. I have used a electric scarifyer previously, however, decided to indulge and purchase the petrol Hyundai. I am pleased with the purchase. It took two of us to assemble the machine and about 30 minutes. Once built it started first time. There was a 600ml 4 stroke engine oil included, which I didn't expect. I had already purchased a bottle of 4 stroke oil.I would say it more than halved the time taken for the smaller less powerful electric models. I had a wee bit of difficulty getting the lower setting for the scarifyer, it was quite stiff. I didn't expereince any of the screw handles coming off due to vibration as expereinced in a previous review. Again, as in previous reviews, the collection bag is of little use given the amount of moss that is lifted. I suspect this would be the case in anything other than a sit on model.I contacted my local lawn service folk prior to purchase. I have an old German spuermarket lawnmower that some folk won't touch in terms of repair or service. They advised that spare parts are available from Hyundai, although, they added that I would need to source them myself, which I don't mind. The would be happy to source a spark pug and complete an oil change, which I can do mysef.Overall, an excellent machine, that I would recommend. I hope this review helps some folk when deciding to purchase, I need to say some of the reviews on here were exccellent, thanks for that! I have also just noticed it has gone up 70 quid since I bought it a couple of weeks ago, wow!Used it again this year, pictures attached, still very pleased.

Superb
I used to do this for a living and am used to professional scarifier and was a bit dubious about this with it being so well priced. I bought it and have used it on 2 lawns one of which was really bad and the results were excellent. Once you get the height set for what you're doing it is faultless it's light easy to assemble powerful enough for it's job and easily stored so yes 1st class
