Very nice device!!
DISCLAIMER:I do not work for Alfa. I am just your average do-it-yourselfer who loves working with Backtrack and Wi-Fi tech/gizmos. I've been looking for a good strong wireless card for awhile now to use with backtrack. I saw a lot of buzz on the internet about these Alfa USB wireless cards and finally got the spare cash to buy one. It took me a while to decide whether I wanted to get the "confirmed awesome" "B/G" only (AWUS036H) card, locking myself into the soon to be obsolete "G" technology, or if I wanted to try my luck on the newcomer which supports "B/G/N" technology. I finally decided to take the chance and get this B/G/N version. This card is phenomenal. Now, for those of you, like me, who are Atheros chipset buffs, fear not. While this device DOES NOT have an Atheros chipset, it is still a great card. I think it is either Ralink or Realtek. I can't remember now, but anyway, I took it out of the box and attempted to install the driver found on the enclosed CD, and like other reviewers here have stated, it was a no-go. The driver installed without error on my PC, but the device will not use it (wrong driver). I am guessing that the issue must be that the enclosed CD doesn't contain a 64-bit driver. So, as I am running Win 7 x64, I went and got the correct driver from Alfa's website, which is the Windows 7 driver package (I guess it contains 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the Windows 7 driver). Got that installed, screwed on the stock 5 dBi antenna first, plugged it in and held the unit in the window next to my computer desk. The performance at this point is pretty good, as far as just doing a site survey. The card picked up all of the Wifi networks that I can already see with my DD-WRT flashed WRT-54G V8 router + connected Super Cantenna (pointed out the same window), plus a few new ones. This tells me that the Alfa card performs slightly better than my current setup, using just the stock 5 dBi whip, which says alot, but now here comes the fun part. I then unplugged the unit, unscrewed the stock 5 dBi antenna, and screwed on this 9 dBi antenna that came in the bundle that I ordered. I plugged this thing into the computer and did another site survey, holding the unit in the same window as before. The number of networks it found has doubled. In fact, it was actually picking up the WiFi network from an elementary school 7 (city) blocks away from my house with 2 out of 5 bars! I kid you not, and I live in a city type neighborhood with brick buildings/houses. I DO NOT have line of site to this school by any means. So if you are still on the fence about buying one of these things, get one, however I would definitely suggest picking up the bundle that I got that comes with the laptop lid clamp (attaches to the black case where its suction cup would go) and the 9 dBi antenna. You can't go wrong. CAUTION: The 9 dBi antenna is BIG and has some weight to it. When I screwed it onto the Alfa card, I noticed that with very little pressure on this massive antenna, the RP-SMA connector soldered to the board inside the Alfa card appears to slightly flex, so keep this in mind. If you plan on using this Alfa card in conjunction with the 9 dBi antenna, it would be best to either attach the unit someplace where it won't be touched/bumped/whatever, OR, use a short pigtail between the antenna and the card so that the card connector doesn't have to bear the weight of this antenna, as I have a feeling that if this thing were to fall on the floor with this antenna attached, the RP=SMA connector may break off the unit, and that would be very bad. OVERALL, I would (and have already) recommend this card to a friend. If you are careful with it while using this big antenna, it should be fine. BACKTRACK USERS: I have not plugged this thing into my laptop running Backtrack 4 R2, so I cannot attest to it's functionality there, but from what I have read using Google, it should be just plug and go (monitor mode, injection, etc.). I'm am still using 4 rather than 5 because my laptop is too old to run Backtrack 5, in case anyone is wondering. Backtrack 4 R2 is just BT4 with a kernel update that allows the required driver for this card to work. From what I have read, the driver for this thing is included in BT4 R2 but IS NOT included in BT4 Final. You will need to upgrade your OS from BT4 to BT4 R2. QUALITY ASSURANCE: The box to this card has a small sticker in the front that seals the box closed. Look for, and make sure it is intact once you've opened the shipping container, otherwise you could be receiving a unit that has previously been returned (possible defective unit). ALSO, on the back of unit itself, there is a holographic authenticity sticker that reads "Alfa, Taiwan" on genuine units. Look for this as well or you may be receiving a cheap clone. Thank you for reading.

No more campground Internet connection problems.
This USB Wireless network adapter has solved my Internet accessibility problems. My laptop is running Windows 10. I merely plugged the device in a USB port using the supplied cable, and it installed drivers without the use of the CD-Rom that came with it. If you do any RV'ing, you know that at times, you will be in a location in which getting a usable signal from the campground router is difficult if not impossible. This device picks up signals strongly that my laptop's receiver barely registers. Using the suction cup and holder, I place the adapter in the window closest to the campground's router and BOOM, I can pick up a strong, usable signal. I've used it at only two campgrounds and, so far, so good. One thing I didn't thing about is that this device is not used to strengthen the signal to the laptop's internal receiver. It is used instead of the receiver built into the laptop. So, once installed, you need to go to the wireless icon at the lower right of your screen, click on it and then select the second setting which is the Alfa signal. You can switch back and forth and see the difference in signal strength. I'm sure an external antenna would work better, but I didn't want to spend the money for such a system if this would work, and I didn't want to drill holes in my RV. I'm happy with this solution and highly recommend it.

I could not be happier with the quality and ease of this product!!!
I had previously used a Wireless N Dual Band which did somewhat of a job of connecting to my Router that was on the main floor of a 1500 sq ft home. To be honest it was less than average. One or two bars of reception. Once I received the ALFA I was blown away on the performance!! I had all bars and much better reception of the router's signal! I was about to buy another one for my laptop for when I am working outside and enjoying the weather. I could not be more happier. I would recommend this product to anyone that has poor reception in your basement. It was so easy to install after removing the previous wireless driver from my computer. Very easy step by step basic installation of the new driver. Within minutes I had the best reception I've ever had in my basement! Grade "A" product!

Has a few flaws but worth the money
I love that I have this product, and it is inexpensive for what it is. It does have a few flaws. The strength and range are somewhat inconsistent. Sometimes it will pick up 40 networks in my neighborhood, and 30 seconds later it may only pick up 15-20. I use it to share my neighbor's internet (with permission of course) and his house is across the street and 2 houses over (About 800 feet). While this antenna will pick up the network 98% of the time, sometimes the signal strength is 85% and sometimes it is 54%. It works better if you put it outside, but please understand it is in no way water proof. I had the Alpha 1000mW antenna which worked fairly well until one day is just broke. This one seems to be better quality and is definitely more powerful. This unit actually works the best with the 7dBi panel antenna than with the 9dBi that comes with it. My other gripe is the software. I installed the driver and the utility from the included CD. The utility does not automatically start and open when you plug the antenna in each time, as in previous versions, which is kind of annoying. The unit does work pretty well most of the time, although when the network you are connecting to has alot of traffic, it will disconnect sometimes. So yes, this product is worth the money since it is fairly inexpensive, but you have to be willing to mess with it sometimes, kind of like TV rabbit ears, when it works, it is great.

Works good and easy to install!
I am a full timer in a motorhome and therefore about 75 yards from the parks modem. I receive and send a full signal by just sticking this into the window using the suction cup mount and windows 7 finds its own drivers, so before I could finish sticking the suction cup to the window it was already operating. I had a panel anttena to start with and with this adapter/booster my ping went from 27 to 34. My Download speed went from 5.46 to 5.83, and Upload went from .37 to .43. So though the number aren't a big change, it was not a without to the adapter, but one adapter compared to the new adapter. So I am very happy with the result. My neighbor also bought one and was with out a signal and went to numbers like mine wth the adapter, so it is well worth the money. And I can still add a yagi antenna if I get to a park that needs more range.

Had High expectations that were not met
I spend a bit time time looking for a good wireless adapter that would keep us from having to stretch cables across the house to get an internet connection. I purchase this product. Installation: Installation was easy. Attach the antenna, clip to computer, plug in, install drivers. Operation: Also easy. I got a great signal to my router and then created a profile and connected using my encryption key. Performance. Unfortunately the performance of this product was terrible. For the first 5 minutes I got a throughput of about 14-15 MPBS through the wireless connection. This is only about 1 MPBS less than my wired connection so I was pretty happy. Within about 10 minutes my throughput dropped to an average of 1 MPBS and has stayed there ever since. My download speed are averaging 20-100 kbs, where before they were averaging 2 Megabytes per second. I am continuing to tinker with this product and try to get it to work so I can replace my wires but right now it's not looking good. Bottom Line: Easy to use but terrible performance. I will submit for a return of both adapters that I purchased if the performance does not improve within a day or two of working on it.

Works Great With Windows 7/10 and CentOS/Backtrack/Kali
I have owned this device for six years and have used it on a variety of platforms. Originally purchased for a wireless class to use with Backtrack, I've also used it on my Windows 7 laptop to enhance range/signal strength, and on a desktop running Windows 10 when the NIC was having issues. Signal strength is great even in large homes and lab environments where you are testing against a wireless router in a room down the hall. The included attachment is great for clipping to your laptop or attaching to a dash in the car. The only issue I've had is with the 9dBi antenna, which over time has a difficult time standing upright even when tightened down. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a USB wireless adapter.

A fully compatible macOs Sierra wifi adapter that works great.
A fully compatible macOS Sierra wireless adapter that does as advertised (10.12-10.13 drivers are available on the alfa blogspot website). However, there are some issues for me. The reception range for this adapter is stated as being 1.2 miles presumably unobstructed of course so I figured that I should be able to connect to a wifi signal 4 houses away. Previously my MacBook Air using it's built in adapter was able to connect to that spot albeit not stable enough for daily driver use on the internet. Although the Alfa adapter did improve the connection, it still was not stable enough to surf reliably using the same access point even though I was even outside in my backyard lined up with the access point. I really think this is a great product and I am sure it will suit my needs once I get a mountable outdoor wifi dish.
